New Art Series by Sarah Capaldi

November 14, 2017

Our current ‘Whiskey and Art’ wall features a new series – Lovely Trios – by Sarah Capaldi, a Chicago artist focused on screen-printing.

Her work explores the use of screen-printing to interpret things found in the natural world in a slightly, subtly different manner. She draws subject matter and symbolism inspiration from traditional Dutch still lifes.

Sarah relies on her background in art; her dual degree in studio art and mathematics; and her sharpening eye to observe and portray the simple, often complex, geometric shapes of plants. Each print begins in the field with a pencil sketch, accompanied by pastels and detailed notes of colors, textures, fragrances, and lighting. In the studio, she uses hand-drawn transparencies and screen-printing techniques to overlay colors and develop subtle gradations in tone and value, hoping to enliven the subject in a novel manner.

She has exhibited her work at shops and galleries in Chicago and Michigan; including Lillstreet Art Gallery, Argo Tea, and Between the Covers Bookstore.

All “Lovely Trios” pieces will be available for sale at DryHop November 14, 2017 through January 15, 2018.
